WDP and HMO mark start of construction for re:GEN project in Nijverdal

On April 9, 2026 WDP and regional development agency HMO officially marked the start of construction for the redevelopment of the TenCate Grass site in Nijverdal (the Netherlands). The event marks the start of the new build on this longstanding industrial location and the transition to the execution phase of the project.

The redevelopment in Nijverdal is part of the broader re:GEN programme in the Netherlands, through which WDP and HMO focus on the regeneration of outdated and underutilised industrial sites. As a brownfield redevelopment, the project enables a more efficient use of scarce space while supporting sustainable and future proof industrial activities.

In Nijverdal, the site of TenCate Grass, historically anchored in the region, is being transformed into a modern production environment that supports the company’s continued growth. The project will safeguard over 300 direct jobs while creating an estimated 50 to 100 additional indirect jobs across the supply chain, while strengthening the long-term industrial fabric of the region.

Through re:GEN, WDP combines its expertise in logistics real estate with a long-term partnership approach, supporting customers with scalable and sustainable solutions tailored to their ambitions. In close collaboration with HMO, the project demonstrates how redevelopment can create both economic and societal value.

“With the start of construction in Nijverdal, we are further executing our stayshoring strategy. Together with HMO and TenCate Grass, we are redeveloping an existing industrial site into a future-proof location that supports the reindustrialisation of the Netherlands and local value creation. This enables our customer to adapt to evolving supply chains, while using space more efficiently and embedding sustainability at its core” Joost Uwents – CEO

“Our motto ‘Building socially relevant area development in collaboration with the market’ comes into its own in the transformation of these infill locations. The business sites are being made more sustainable and prepared for the future. At the same time, we see strong opportunities to upgrade the entire site with socially relevant applications and functions. The collaboration with WDP within the re:GEN concept is therefore no coincidence, but a logical outcome.” - Jeroen Heethaar, Director HMO
