Why redevelop industrial areas

Why redevelop industrial areas

Why redevelop industrial sites?

Economic activities take up only 2.5 percent* of the land area in the Netherlands. As the pressure on scarce space increases, that percentage must not decrease at all. Because businesses generate income, prosperity, and added value. Instead of exploiting more space, we need to make better use of the available space. This is why the redevelopment of industrial sites is gaining momentum. With re:GEN, WDP and HMO demonstrate what this looks like in practice.

The right company in the right place

Redevelopment revolves around the efficient use of the space that already exists. By optimally utilizing existing locations and ensuring that the right company is in the right place or remains there.

TenCate Grass has been connected to Nijverdal for over a century. An exploration managed by HMO showed that the location can be redeveloped. On one hand by revitalizing existing industrial real estate, and on the other hand by building a new factory. This transforms the area from an outdated environment to an attractive location with a strong identity.

Scania has been active in Zwolle since 1964 and produces no less than 60 percent of all Scania trucks worldwide. Thanks to area development, the global player in transport solutions can expand. With space for logistics, truck assembly, and suppliers.

Anchoring industry and creating jobs

The redevelopment of industrial sites not only gives companies space to grow but also contributes to a strong economic region.

The TenCate project comes with 300 existing jobs and creates 50 to 100 indirect jobs in the supply chain.

The new production line of Scania offers work to 300 people and firmly places Zwolle on the map as a center for sustainable transport.

Making sustainable and contributing to climate agreement

Redevelopment makes outdated locations economically viable and sustainable. New and renovated buildings are more energy-efficient and simultaneously improve spatial quality.

The new factory of TenCate consumes significantly less water and energy. Scania invests in the efficient production of trucks.

More efficient processes, renewable energy, reduced water consumption, and lower CO2 emissions directly contribute to the objectives of the climate agreement.

With re:GEN, WDP and HMO are building sustainable industrialization and resilient infrastructure. A boost for innovation and employment, with a significant economic and societal added value.
