The extension to Scania's warehouse at Russenweg in Zwolle has reached its highest point. Scania and HMO celebrated this construction milestone with guests and employees. Through re:GEN, WDP and HMO are taking another step towards providing space for the manufacturing industry in Overijssel.
A unique view of the progress
From around 50 metres above the ground, those attending could see the Scania site, the outline of the new building and the city of Zwolle. A crane on the construction site brought the progress into view. After the official ceremony, Scania employees also had the opportunity to go up and see the new site from a different perspective.
The event, organised by Scania and HMO, also celebrated the collaboration with the provincial and municipal authorities and the construction partners.
โWith this development, we are building not only a new facility, but also Scania's future in Zwolle,โ said Renรฉ Brill, Managing Director of Scania Logistics Netherlands.
More space for an efficient production chain
Scania has been operating in Zwolle since 1964. The factory produces 60 per cent of all Scania trucks worldwide. Operating at this scale requires a logistics chain that delivers parts at the right time and keeps the assembly lines running smoothly.
The extension at Russenweg supports that chain with 13,315 square metres of warehouse space, 1,748 square metres of offices and 5,923 square metres of outdoor space. The design focuses on a smooth flow of goods and minimal additional handling. Through its investment in the site, WDP gives its customer's logistics ambitions room to grow.
Building on a longstanding partnership
The development builds on the partnership between WDP and HMO. Between 2015 and 2017, the two partners already worked together to enable expansion plans for Scania and other companies in the Zwolle region. Through re:GEN, they combine WDP's property expertise and financial strength with HMO's regional knowledge and experience in area development.
The aim is to make better use of existing industrial sites and give businesses room to keep growing in the region. The extension at Russenweg puts that ambition into practice. With the highest point now reached, work will continue on completing the warehouse.
